SPRING VALLEY, AZ - A family of four was taken to the hospital Monday morning after a hot air balloon made a hard landing near Spring Valley, Ariz.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened around 8 a.m. Monday morning near Old Cordes, about eight miles east of Mayer, Ariz.
Ten people, including the pilot, were inside the basket of the hot air balloon when it was forced to land in windy conditions, according to officials with the Mayer Fire Department.
A female was transported to the hospital with a possible broken ankle. Two 10-year-olds suffered injuries to their legs. An adult male was transported to the hospital, but had no major injuries.
YCSO said the balloon is owned by Arizona Balloon Works in Cottonwood, Ariz., and was planning to fly from Black Canyon Wash to Camp Verde.
Officials said windy conditions took the balloon off course where it landed in a community in Old Cordes. The balloon's basket struck the ground several times, according to YCSO, and traveled about 150 yards.
The incident happened southwest of Interstate 17 and Highway 69.
The family is visiting from Ohio and was staying in Sedona.
