PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - A Cottonwood man is behind bars for allegedly threatening three people at a supermarket with the store's meat cleaver
According to a report from the Prescott Valley Police Department, Jason R. Thrift, 34, approached multiple victims with the cleaver at a supermarket near North Glassford Hill Road.
He reportedly told the employees that he would hurt them if they didn't give him back his wife and 18-month-old child.
They say Thrift made references to his spouse being kept in an open area above the dairy section.
When police arrived, they learned the suspect fled the scene in a passenger car.
Responding officers located the vehicle and stopped it near Florentine and Windsong.
When officers interviewed Thrift, he made incriminating statements about the cleaver, but did not remember what he told the employees.
According to the report, Thrift made further statements that he was afraid that his significant other's father kidnapped the two.
Thrift is being held at Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating, disorderly conduct and shoplifting.
