21-year-veteran of YCSO dies in car accident in Humboldt, Arizona

HUMBOLDT, AZ - An off-duty Yavapai County Sheriff deputy and his son were killed Friday in a single vehicle collision.

YCSO says 51-year-old Lt. Wayne Loughrige and his son 17-year-old Joseph Arter were killed when their car drifted into the center median, over corrected, and lost control before colliding with an embankment on southbound Highway 69 in Humboldt, Arizona.

Officials say Loughrige who was driving, and his son Arter were both wearing their seatbelts. There is no indication that vehicle speed or driver impairment contributed to the fatal accident.

Loughrige was with YCSO since 1991, and recently married his wife, Kristine, in October of 2012.
