Payson man rescues injured bear cub from roadway

PAYSON, AZ - A 4-month-old baby bear is recovering Monday after being hit by a car near Payson.

Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center spokesman Pat Impiccini said Christopher Morris saw the injured bear in the roadway and drove the animal to their Scottsdale facility to be rehabilitated.

Morris said it seemed like the bear wanted his help.

"He was just happy he wasn't laying in the road anymore," said Morris.

X-rays show the cub has a broken front leg.

Vets will nurse him back to health, but rely on donations for medicine and food.
