PAYSON, AZ - An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer was badly injured after he was involved in a crash north of the Valley Monday.
A DPS spokesperson said the officer suffered severe head injuries in the single-vehicle accident on State Route 87 south of Payson.
Officer Carrick Cook said the officer was responding to a medical emergency when he crashed. Weather is believed to have played a factor in the accident.
The officer was flown to John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital where he may need face surgery.
