CAMP VERDE, AZ - The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is scaling back a search to find an inmate who escaped from a detention center on Saturday.
According to officials, 28-year-old Wade Cole Dickinson was last seen in Camp Verde near Highway 260 and Old Highway 279 around 2:30 p.m.
He has not yet been located and is now considered a fugitive. Warrants are being issued for his arrest.
He left the jail wearing a white T-shirt, orange jail pants and white socks, but late Saturday night authorities said it appeared Dickinson is now wearing a white button-up shirt, khaki pants and dirty dark socks. They said he has cuts on his legs, most likely from barbed wire during the jail escape.
Detectives learned that Dickinson tried to steal a car from a business parking lot on Highway 260 in front of the jail. They believe he is still in the area and may try again to steal a vehicle to flee the area.
Authorities say Dickinson was in jail on charges including fraud schemes, theft, prohibited possession and possession of dangerous drugs.
He reportedly has family in the Camp Verde and Prescott Valley communities.
Dickinson is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen in a recreation yard at the Camp Verde Jail. The escape is under investigation.
Authorities are warning residents in the Camp Verde and Cottonwood communities to be cautious when entering their vehicles and to lock doors and windows at home.
The jail is located near Interstate 17 and YCSO says drivers should not pick up hitchhikers or stop if someone tries to flag them down.
