Two brothers died in a single-engine plane crash near Littlefield Sunday night

LITTLEFIELD, AZ - Two brothers were killed Sunday when their single-engine plane crashed in northern Arizona en route from Utah to Nevada, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said.

Trish Carter, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's office, said the bodies of 19-year-old pilot, Daulton Rey Whatcott, and 16-year-old Jaxon McKee Whatcott, were recovered Monday.

The 1969 Cessna 172K fixed-wing single-engine plane crashed around 6:30 p.m. near Littlefield located in northwest Arizona.

Carter said the crash site was located about 150 feet south of Interstate 15 at milepost 14. She said the two brothers were the only two people aboard the aircraft.

KSL.com reports that the two brothers were traveling to Las Vegas for a basketball tournament.

Carter said investigators with the National Safety Transportation Board were on site Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration will also be conducting an investigation.
