Southbound Interstate 17 reopens after fatal crash at Sunset Point

SUNSET POINT, AZ - Interstate 17 southbound has reopened at the Sunset Point and Cordes Junction areas after a deadly rollover crash on Saturday, according to the Department of Transportation.

The highway was closed for several hours, but reopened around 6:45 p.m.

Northbound I-17 was unaffected and remained open.

On Sunday, the Department of Public Safety said that for an unknown reason a 2004 Dodge PK rolled over an unknown number of times and struck a guard rail.

DPS said the driver, 29-year-old Donald Wayne Bonesteel of Phoenix was injured in the crash. A 59-year-old passenger, Kelly Kay Bomar of Glendale was killed and passengers Jennifer Bonesteel and a six-year-old child were also injured.
