SEDONA, AZ - Firefighters battling a wildfire in northern Arizona discovered a historic cabin Monday.
According to post on the Slide Fire Facebook page , members of the Coronado National Forest discovered the unknown cabin while conducting burnout operations in the area.
The crew removes fuels and debris from the cabin, as well as constructed a fire line.
Forest Archeologist Jeremy Haines took an ace hewn log which will be sent to a laboratory at the University of Arizona. There, the lab will be able to determine its age.
Officials said the small cabin was tucked away in a steep side of the canyon, according to the Facebook post.
