SEDONA, AZ - The large wildfire burning north of Sedona forced many nearby campers to leave, leaving many of their belongings at the campsite.
Tony and Scott Robertson were camping nearby, but had to leave once the Slide Fire forced the closure of Highway 89A.
Police officials weren't able to immediately let campers turn to their campground to pick up their belongings until the fire threat died down or it became safe to do so.
"When we saw the smoke, I thought all of our stuff was gone."
The Robertsons were camping within a mile of the road closure, located at the end of Uptown Sedona, and were eventually escorted to their campsite.
As helicopters flew overhead, the Robertsons threw all of their belongings into the vehicle.
"We decided we are just going to throw everything in," he said.
While they may have to find a different place to camp, they aren't letting the wildfire ruin their vacation.
