A Cottonwood woman is accused of burning a fast food employee’s face and neck after throwing a hot cup of coffee at him.

On Aug. 31, Rochelle Moreno went through a Taco Bell drive-thru in Cottonwood and ordered a hot cup of coffee, according to police. When she got to the window, she requested another cup of coffee because she felt her original drink wasn’t fresh.

The employee at the drive-thru window misunderstood Moreno and believed she was asking for an extra cup which was given to her, officials said.

According to witnesses, Moreno was “infuriated” by this and went inside the restaurant to confront the employee. Once inside, she yelled at the employee before being asked to wait outside.

Another Taco Bell employee attempted to take a picture of the suspect’s license plate with his cellphone, police said. Moreno allegedly threw the cup of coffee in the victim’s face after he attempted to block her from knocking his cell phone of out his hand.

The man was taken to the hospital with first-degree burns. According to officials, his injuries indicate that the coffee was hot, not warm.

Moreno was arrested at her house and charged with two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct.
