GRAND CANYON NATIONLA PARK, AZ - Officials said one person has died after falling at the Grand Canyon.
Kirby-Lynn Shedlowski, spokesman for the Grand Canyon National Park, said an individual fell off the rim near Mather Point around 1 p.m. Monday.
Crews were able to locate the individual about 400 feet below the rim, said Shedlowski. A Search and Rescue is currently working to recover the body.
Mather Point has been closed to the public. It is located near the South Rim.
Park statistics show that about 4.5 million people visit the Grand Canyon each year and an average of 12 people die there annually. An average two to three deaths per year are from falls over the rim.
