CORNVILLE, AZ - Portions of a Native American archeological site were damaged during a reported trespassing at the site in mid to late November, according to a State Parks Site steward, though the trespassers are still unknown.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says that they responded to the site near Sugarloaf Road and Loy Road in Cornville, Ariz. after noon on Nov. 20 when the trespassing incident was reported.
The steward found at least two fresh holes with a dirt strainer, digging tools and a bucket. Nearby, two pottery pots were also damaged.
The holes were empty, so they assume there was also some type of theft, though they are not sure of the extent of the trespassing and theft.
According to officials, they believe the incident may have occurred between Nov. 13 and Nov. 20.
There is a path to the site, but the site itself is fenced in with a "No Trespassing" sign.
Nearby residents that check on the site have not reported any suspicious activity, so Yavapai police are asking for help with any information regarding the incident.
