Horse shot, Maricopa County Sheriff's office looking for leads

WITTMANN, AZ - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying the person or persons responsible for shooting a horse Saturday night.

MCSO spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said deputies found the horse in a desert area near 243rd Avenue and Patton Road in Wittmann, Arizona.

Enriquez said the horse is presumed to be in her late 20's to early 30's.

Despite her injury, deputies say she was alert and sifting the ground for food. The horse is now in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, but remains in serious condition. It is unknown at this time if the horse will survive.

Enriquez said the horse is under the care of inmates and the veterinarian crew from the Durango Equine Equine Veterinary Clinic in Buckeye.

Detectives said they have no leads and need help from the community.
