Fire crews struggle to save home in blaze, no fire hydrant

NEW RIVER, AZ - Fire engulfed and destroyed a Valley home Sunday morning after crews noticed there was not an accessible fire hydrant.

Firefighters from Daisy Mountain, Scottsdale and Phoenix worked hard to control a house fire that erupted around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning near east Circle Mountain Road and 14th Street in New River, Ariz.

Fire crews noticed the street didn't have a fire hydrant, which allowed the fire to bloom and destroy the house. Water had to be brought in to try and fight the blaze.

As of 8 a.m., fire crews were still on scene working to secure the property.

Neighbors said no one was home at the time of the fire and believed the homeowners may be away for the weekend.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
