MORRISTOWN, AZ - Authorities identified a 71-year-old man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Carefree Highway late Monday afternoon.
The collision happened just before 5 p.m. on State Route 74 west of Castle Hot Springs Road near Morristown, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Spokesman Bart Graves identified the victim as Robert E. Caine of Scottsdale.
Graves said Caine was driving an SUV when he lost control and collided with the passenger side of a pickup truck. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash.
Caine was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene, according to Graves. The other two drivers suffered minor injuries.
Graves said weather may have been a factor in the accident due to icy conditions on the highway, as well as rain and hail.
Carefree Highway was closed in both directions from US 60 to Milepost 7 for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
