Dean Peak Fire: Crews reach 90% containment, residents allowed to return home

Fire crews made "significant progress" battling a wildfire near Kingman, Ariz. over the weekend.

As of 6 p.m. the Dean Peak fire reached 90% containment as fire lines have held exceptionally well, according to an incident report. Residents of Pine Lake, Pinion Pines and Getz Ranch will be allowed to return to their homes Sunday.

The lifted evacuations will be limited to residents only on Sunday, according to the released update.

The Dean Peak Fire erupted 10 miles southeast of Kingman, Ariz. on June 29 after a lightning strike ignited the blaze.

Management of the fire transitioned from the Northern Arizona Type II Incident Management Team back to the Kingman Field Office of the Colorado River District BLM on Sunday night.

Crews will continue rehabilitation of control lines and will patrol the fire area.
