Aguila woman arrested, accused of animal cruelty

AGUILA, AZ - Another arrest has been made after authorities seized four horses from a home in Aguila, 25 miles west of Wickenburg.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials a 51-year-old woman is being held on suspicion of seven counts of animal cruelty.

Her 27-year-old son, Jason Valenzuela, was arrested last week on the same charges.

Sheriff's officials say the woman's arrest was delayed until Wednesday because she had been out of the country.

They don't have lawyers yet.

Animal crimes detectives served a search warrant Feb. 4 at the Valenzuela home.

They determined four horses had been neglected and were in dire need of food and medical attention.

Sheriff's officials say three of the horses had dental issues where their teeth had curled, which didn't allow them to eat and caused starvation.
