DONEY PARK, AZ - The Coconino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl who was struck by a car in Doney Park, east of Flagstaff.
Officials said on Monday around 4:41 p.m., deputies responded to the report of a car pedestrian collision.
The victim, a 2-year-old, was described as being in serious condition.
After arriving at the scene, the deputies found the child unconscious on the road with obvious signs of head trauma. She had a pulse but very labored breathing.
The girl was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center and pronounced dead later that evening.
According to the 59-year-old female driver of the vehicle, she slowed her car to about 20 miles per hour after spotting a group of children playing in a residential yard near the road.
Deputies believe the child ran into the street and was hit by the passenger side of the car.
Sheriff's officials say no citations or charges have been filed against the driver and the investigation is ongoing.
