12 dogs die when fire tears through trailer

CHINO VALLEY, AZ - A dozen dogs died when fire tore through an RV in Chino Valley, north of Phoenix.

According to the Chino Valley Fire District, firefighters responded to the RV fire in the 2000 block of North Reed Road around noon on Sunday.

When crews arrived they found a fifth wheel trailer hooked up to a truck with the trailer fully involved in flames.

Fire crews were able to put out the fire quickly and protect a nearby home and vehicle, but the owners were returning from a dog show and 12 dogs were trapped and killed in the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours to help remove the dead dogs and bury them on the property.

A fire investigator found that a broken suspension piece had caused some friction under the trailer which started the blaze, according to the Fire District.
