WIKIEUP, AZ - The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says a woman died and two others, including her teen son, are seriously injured after a single-engine plane had to make a forced landing near Wikieup, Ariz.
Trish Carter with MCSO said a 13-year-old boy called dispatch around 11:30 a.m. to say his plane crashed with his mom, dad, and himself on board.
The single-engine Mooney M20 experienced an engine problem and landed in an open area three miles southeast of Wikieup, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.
Gregor said there was substantial damage to the aircraft.
The adult male subject was airlifted to a medical facility in Las Vegas, Nev. while the boy was airlifted to a medical facility in Phoenix, according to Gregor.
They're both reportedly suffering serious injuries.
Gregor said the FAA believes the plane was flying from Sedona to Minter Field in Shafter, Calif.
The Associated Press reported the plane is registered to a person in Bakersfield, Calif, according to FAA records.
