Up to 1,000 feral pigs are set to be killed at the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge as part of an eradication plan starting Tuesday.

According to Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is hoping to eradicate 100 percent of the population. The swine are said to be diseased.

A helicopter and shooter from Texas will be carrying out the eradication over the course of two weeks, according to a media release.

According to the Associated Press, the carcasses that will be retrieved by refuge workers are going to be buried.
