Kingman man Jason Lloyd Hartwick accused of chopping off step-daughter's hair as punishment

KINGMAN, AZ - Authorities say a Kingman man faces a number of charges after he allegedly chopped off his step-daughter's hair as punishment then broke her older sister's phone when she tried to call 911.

Jason Lloyd Hartwick, 30, was arrested Tuesday night for aggravated assault, assault, and preventing the use of a phone in an emergency, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

MCSO deputies responded to a disturbance report in the 3200 block of E. Packard Avenue after a caller said her mother and step-father were fighting.

Hartwick's 37-year-old wife told deputies she got upset when she got home and found that Hartwick had cut off her 10-year-old daughter's hair as punishment.

The girl told deputies that she fell and hit her eye when Hartwick pulled her out of a chair, and that he spanked her with a shoe while he sat on her.

She said Hartwick slammed her mother against a wall and he broke the cell phone when her older sister was going to call authorities.

Hartwick told deputies that nothing happened, other than an argument.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Mohave County Jail.

Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
