Frank Ellis Stringer killed in N. Arizona dune buggy crash

GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ - One person is dead after an accident involving a dune buggy in northwestern Arizona over the weekend.

Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman Patricia Carter said deputies responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on Centennial Road in Golden Valley just after 6 p.m. Friday.

The preliminary investigation indicates that 53-year-old Frank Ellis Stringer was driving the dune buggy with 54-year-old Ronnie Ray Birdsell as his passenger. Both are from Golden Valley.

Carter said the two were traveling north on Centennial Road, a little more than a mile south of the prison, when they came across a washed out section of the road.

Stringer was unable to slow the vehicle in time and the dune buggy rolled.

Carter said Stringer was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Birdsell was fully ejected during the crash and taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Carter said neither man was wearing a safety belt.

Carter said while the investigation is ongoing, it appears alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident.
