Explosive deactivated near Lake Havasu-area home, sheriffs department says

LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - Mohave County Sheriff's officials say an explosive device was found in front of a home near Lake Havasu City on Sunday evening.

Deputies responded to a home in Desert Hills, northwest of Lake Havasu City, after someone reported a suspicious package in their driveway. The caller said he opened the package and saw something that looked like an M-80, but wasn't sure if it was a prank.

Neighboring houses were evacuated and a perimeter was set up while various police and fire departments investigated. Lake Havasu Police Department Bomb Squad determined the device was real and was able to deactivate it safely.

The incident is still under investigation.
