The Arizona Department of Public Safety made a decision Thursday on how they will be handling 50 pounds of old dynamite near Interstate 17 in Flagstaff -- they’re going to blow it up!

DPS officials said the Explosives Disposal Unit will destroy the unstable dynamite on Friday morning. The explosives were found in a shed off I-17 near the Newman Park exit.

The interstate was shut down in both directions from SR-179 to Kelly Canyon Road starting at 5 a.m. Both directions reopened about an hour ahead of schedule, before 8 a.m.
