Storm brings flooding, hail to Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - The National Weather Service says two inches of rain have fallen on east Flagstaff along with a quarter-inch of hail.

The thunderstorm that hit late Tuesday afternoon left some street flooding in east Flagstaff below Mount Elden and in Timberline.

However, west Flagstaff has remained dry.

Flagstaff Fire said crews reported hail, heavy rains, severe traffic congestion and heavy debris. Some roads were impassable due to heavy water flow.

Viewer photos submitted into ABC15 showed mud-covered streets near the base of Mount Elden.

Flagstaff Fire said the amount of rainfall overtook retention basins and culverts. It said some homes even had water flowing through them.

The Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter said it is assisting 30 families displaced due to the flooding.

A small stream flood advisory was issued for the Doney Park and Timberline area where heavy rain fell.

Authorities say there have been no reported injuries.
