JACOB LAKE, AZ - A state road that takes motorists to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon reopens next week.
State Route 67 regularly is closed over the winter season due to heavy snowfall. State Department of Transportation officials say traffic is welcome again starting Thursday.
The road is the lone link to the North Rim, which lies at the southern end of the Kaibab Plateau. The plateau is about 8,500 feet in elevation and offers spectacular views of the canyon.
Hikers can make the 21-mile trek to the North Rim from the South Rim. The drive between the two rims is about 215 miles.
The more popular South Rim stays open year-round.
