FLAGSTAFF, AZ - A Phoenix man is in critical but stable condition Wednesday after being crushed by a rock slide in Flagstaff.
Early Tuesday morning, the 27-year-old was attempting to move a large boulder blocking Elden Lookout Road when another one weighing more than 30 tons slid down the mountain side crushing the victim's legs and pelvic area.
When responders from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office arrived shortly around 7:30 a.m., four men the victim was traveling with had removed him from underneath the boulder.
After the victim's location was accessed by a Sheriff's Commander's SUV, he taken to the Flagstaff Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
Investigators learned the men were headed up the mountain to work on one of the radio towers.
