FLAGSTAFF, AZ - A 23-year-old Flagstaff woman faces between 10- and 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the September death of a 21-year-old Northern Arizona University student killed while riding home on her bicycle.
Kelsey Lou Cody pleaded guilty Monday in exchange for dismissal of charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to police, Jordan Mahoney was killed when struck by Cody's speeding pickup in a residential neighborhood.
Mahoney was from San Jose, Calif. She was an English and physiology double major who would have graduated from NAU last month.
Cody had told investigators she was drinking to kill the pain from a recent tongue piercing and initially claimed a friend was driving the truck and that the victim jumped out in front of the vehicle.
