Hikers trapped on Mount Elden rescued, no injuries reported

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - The Flagstaff Fire Department and Coconino County Search and Rescue team rescued two hikers who were trapped 15 feet above the ground Wednesday near Mount Elden.

One of the hikers was stuck in a small crack which impeded his movement, according to the Flagstaff Fire Department.

Authorities used an extension letter to create a high point over the trapped hiker and raised him out of the crack, according to Capt. Scott Strohmeyer.

A Coconino County Search and Rescue Team drove a four-wheel drive vehicle close to the scene to provide warmth for the hikers once they were removed.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Mount Elden is located northeast of Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest.
