FD fights BIG Flagstaff transformer fire

FLAGSTAFF - Fire crews were able to extinguish a transformer fire that broke out in Flagstaff Monday afternoon, sending thick smoke out over the area.

Flagstaff Fire Department spokesman Mark Johnson said the fire broke out at an APS substation around 5:45 p.m in the Buffalo Park area.

The Flagstaff Fire Department tweeted around 6 p.m. "we are working large electrical fire at Gemini & Cedar and please avoid the area of Cedar Hill if possible."

Fire crews said they had the fire out in less than 30 minutes.

APS spokesperson Steven Gottfried said that no one was in danger, and no customers lost power during the fire.

There is no word at this time how the fire started.
