A 31-year-old man was killed by officials in Coconino County after a standoff with police.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, on Saturday a call from a crisis hotline came in around 9:51 p.m. about Mark Kelly who was armed and was suicidal. Kelly's mother called the hot line and told officials her son was behind a home near the garage.

Police arrived to the home located just off of Lumberjack Boulevard in the Mountain View Ranchos area just east of Flagstaff, and were informed of shots fired coming from the area Kelly was in. A perimeter was set up to make sure those in the neighborhood were safe.

Police were able to make contact with Kelly and tried to convince him to surrender his weapon. Help was offered to the man. At 11:28 p.m., Kelly drove a truck from the garage to the front of the home where he then exited the vehicle with a high powered rifle.

At that moment, police tried to convince Kelly to once again put down his weapon, however the man placed the gun in his mouth and then took it out and leveled it at officers. Police then shot several times at Kelly.

Fire officials who were staged nearby performed first aid on the man before transporting him to a hospital. Kelly was pronounced dead by hospital officials.

Four Coconino County Sheriff deputies, four Flagstaff Police Department officers and two Arizona Department of Publice Safety troopers responded to the scene. Coconino County officials say the officer involved in the shooting is under investigation.
