3 people arrested at Arizona Snowbowl protest

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - Authorities arrested three people near the Arizona Snowbowl in the latest round of protests against using reclaimed water for making snow.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says it received a report from the U.S. Forest Service Saturday that protesters had gathered on Snowbowl Road northwest of Flagstaff.

Forest Service officers say about 30 to 35 people were there protesting construction of a pipeline.

Only three people were arrested for disorderly conduct and trespass. They were identified as 35-year-old Klee Benally, 71-year-old Mary Sojourner, and 39-year-old Rudy Preston.

Protesters have said they are against using reclaimed water for making snow because it desecrates sacred land.

Last week, nine people were chained together across the roadway. They used chains, pipes and three 55 gallon drums filled with cement.
