Skateboarder struck by car in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A Scottsdale skateboarder was taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning after being hit by a car while moving through a crosswalk.

According to Scottsdale officials, the 20-year-old male was skateboarding near Scottsdale and Thomas roads around 12:30 a.m.

An 84-year-old driver, also a Scottsdale resident, struck the skateboarder while driving eastbound through a green light.

The skateboarder suffered life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for over four hours after the incident.

Police do not believe impairment or speed was a factor in the accident. Reports indicate the skateboarder was riding against the red light at the time he was hit.
