Scottsdale police search for man who exposes self to women in apartments, motel room

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police are searching for a man who exposed himself to female victims over the weekend at three different Scottsdale locations in the middle of the night.

The incidents happened in different apartments and a motel room that had unsecured points of entry, Scottsdale police said. All the victims were unharmed.

The first incident was reportedly at the Palladium Apartments on Drinkwater Boulevard, north of Indian School Road around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the suspect entered the victim's apartment through an unlocked glass door while she was sleeping. He put his pants down and exposed himself.

The suspect ran away when the victim woke up screaming, police said.

The second incident was at the Howard Johnson hotel on Indian School Road, west of Scottsdale Road, at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police said they believe the same suspect got into the first floor motel room through an unsecured window, wearing only underpants.

The victim kicked and struck him, causing him to escape through the window, police said.

The third occurrence was at the San Marin Apartments, which is also on Drinkwater Boulevard, north of Indian School Road. It happened at 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the suspect entered the apartment through an unlocked sliding glass door with himself exposed, while the victim was asleep.

The victim woke up and screamed, causing the suspect to escape again, police said.

"We should probably be doing a lot more to protect ourselves than we are. Obviously, hearing this, it hits so close to home, I think that's probably something we'll be thinking about tonight as we're locking our doors," said Jennifer Higgins, who lives in one of the apartment complexes the suspect targeted.

Her roommate, Maria Roncancio agreed saying they need to be careful in the future. "Even running together, staying in a group, not wandering off, especially for young females," she said.

ABC15 wanted to know the psychology of why this suspect would do this. We reached out to board-certified Psychiatrist, Dr. Michael Yasinski.

He told us, "Men who expose themselves to women are usually sex addicts who need more radical gratification."

Police spokesman Dave Pubins said police will be stepping up patrols in the area and are passing out composite sketches of the suspect.

Police said the suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-11-inches tall, and weighs 150 to 175 pounds.

He has short blond or light brown hair and possibly a piercing near one of his eyes.

He was wearing a gray zip-up hooded sweatshirt, gray workout pants, and possibly a beanie cap during the third incident, police said.

Police are encouraging residents to lock all doors and windows at night and keep blinds closed.

Anyone with information that may be related to these incidents is urged to call Scottsdale police at 480-312-TIPS or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
