Scottsdale PD: Man wanted for raping 2 women turns himself in

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Scottsdale police say man wanted in connection with two rapes in the past week has turned himself in.

Police identified him as 22-year-old Ryan Joseph Festa.

Festa reportedly saw the sketch broadcast by the media and turned himself into the Scottsdale Police Department late Thursday night.

Police said Festa entered an apartment in the Camden San Paloma apartment complex near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard on Oct. 18 around 11 p.m. through an unlocked patio door.

Inside the apartment, police said he sexually assaulted a 49-year-old woman. He allegedly entered and left the apartment completely naked.

Police said Festa allegedly entered another apartment in the Saddletree apartment complex on Oct. 24 around 11:30 p.m. also near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard through an unlocked patio door.

Authorities said the 29-year-old victim was alone in the apartment when the man sexually assaulted her.

Police said the second victim was injured when she fought to escape several times. Detectives said she did manage to scratch the attackers face or head.

Officers said both victims described the suspect as a black male standing between 5-feet-6-inches and 5-feet-8-inches tall. Both women described him as having a thin build and that he appeared to be in his late teens or early twenties.

According to police, the first victim said he had a half-inch cropped afro and was clean shaven. The second victim said he had a light-colored shirt on his head and was wearing red shorts at the time of the attack.

Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said it appears the suspect stalked or watched his victims before he attacks.

Detectives found a handful of neighbors who said they saw a man fitting the description lurking in bushes, but no one called police.

Clark cautions residents to keep their windows and doors locked.
