Scottsdale police holding meeting to discuss recent rapes

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Scottsdale police held a community meeting Thursday to address concerns about two rapes at two apartment complexes.
The meeting was at 7 p.m. at the Camedon San Paloma Apartments at 6980 E. Sahauro.
The two rapes happened last month within days of each other.
Ryan Festa turned himself in after seeing a sketch on the news. His attorney, Bernard Garcia, told police that Festa has a brain injury and is susceptible to suggestion.
Festa was released from jail over the weekend when a judge found there wasn't enough evidence to hold him.

During a Thursday press conference, police said DNA evidence cleared the 22-year-old as a suspect in the attacks.
The judge was also unable to hold Festa on marijuana charges because he is a medical marijuana card holder.

A probation violation against him was also dismissed.
Festa is currently living in a group home in Tempe.
Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said there are still active leads coming in about the case.  He is unable to give details about the case.

He said, though, that neither victim had positively identified Festa as the one responsible. Court documents indicate a shoe print at one of the two scenes was similar to a shoe that Festa was wearing when he turned himself in.
