SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A man sought for questioning for alleged sex crimes has been fatally shot by Scottsdale police after he allegedly fired at officers.
Police have identified the man as 45-year-old Thomas Hawes.
They say the Scottsdale man was accused of sexually molesting a juvenile female relative for seven years beginning in 2003.
The girl now is an adult and recently told police of the alleged abuse.
Detectives tried to make contact with Hawes as he drove on a Scottsdale street about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Police say Hawes pulled over to the side of the road and approaching detectives noticed he had a gun pointed at himself.
Hawes got out of his vehicle and allegedly pointed his gun at five detectives and fired a shot that missed. Officers then fatally shot him.
