Scottsdale Police arrest man accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend, her dog

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police arrested a man Monday accused of assaulting his ex- girlfriend and her dog near Scottsdale and Thomas Roads in Scottsdale.

27-year-old Carlos Martinez Jr. is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence, grabbing her and throwing her Yorkshire Terrier against a breakfast bar, police said.

The 34-year-old female victim was not seriously injured, but her dog was seen bleeding around its mouth and limping, police said.

Martinez gained entry to the residence by smashing a patio door, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, Martinez was no longer at the home but was located and arrested a few blocks away after a brief foot chase, police said.

The victim told police she ended her relationship with Martinez 3 months ago.
