Scottsdale PD: No criminal charges in death at Costco gas pumps

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police say a man who ran over a woman Saturday at a Costco in Scottsdale will not face criminal charges.

Scottsdale police spokesman David Pubins said the victim was identified as 74-year-old Patricia A. Covault of Fountain Hills.

In the early afternoon, an 86-year-old man backed his Jeep SUV into Covault's vehicle parked at the Costco gas pumps near Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Hayden Road, according to Pubins.

When Covault got out of her car to inspect the damage, the man backed over her and dragged her for a "short distance," Pubins said.

Covault was pronounced dead at the scene.

"As the tragic collision has been investigated at the scene, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be submitted on the driver of the Jeep," Pubins said in an emailed statement.

No other information was released.
