Scottsdale Fire: 17-year-old driver in critical condition after being pinned underneath vehicle

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A 17-year-old Valley driver is in the hospital fighting for his life after being pinned underneath his car overnight in Scottsdale.

Captain Jim Novotny, spokesman for the Scottsdale Fire Department, said it took crews nearly an hour to rescue the teenager. The accident occurred near 132nd Street and Larkspur Drive.

The teenager was taken to Scottsdale Osborn Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle's other two 16-year-old passengers managed to escape the vehicle with minor injuries.

Novotny said authorities believe the driver of the sedan was driving at a high-rate of speed and caused it to rollover. The driver was attempting to escape out the vehicle's window when it began to roll further down the hill, pinning him.

Authorities do not know if all passengers were wearing seatbelts or if drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash.

No further updates regarding the teen's condition or specifics related to the crash were released.
