Scottsdale family devastated over dog shooting

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A Scottsdale family is devastated after their dog was shot and killed in their own backyard.

Gail Murphy said it happened two weekends ago while she was out of town.

Gail's family was watching her dog Chico.

A family member went to a barbeque and when he came home, he was shocked to find a trail of blood. He followed the trail from the backyard into the house and found six-year-old Chico barely alive and bleeding profusely from his neck.

There was nothing he could do but to rush Chico to the vet. They discovered the pup had been shot with a .22 caliber hollow point bullet.

"Why would you do that? Why would you do that to my dog?" Murphy wondered.

Because of the blood trail, the family believes it may have been a neighbor who was responsible for their dog's death.

They said they're so devastated; they're willing to pay a $2,000 reward to anyone who can give police information that leads them to the person responsible.

Murphy said she can't even go in her backyard because she thinks of Chico and fears the person responsible may target humans next.

"It would be one thing if it was a pellet or a BB, this was .22 hollow-point," she said. "This was a gun that was fired into our backyard."

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Scottsdale police.
