Police in Scottsdale are investigating after a man died after assaulting his parents on Monday night.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, 55-year-old Charles Knowlton assaulted his elderly parents near 114th Street and Via Linda at the Andara Senior Living Community.

When officers arrived, they found Knowlton's elderly mother outside of her apartment after she had appeared to have been beaten.

As officers went inside the home, they located Knowlton and his elderly father on the ground covered in blood.

Police say as Knowlton was being handcuffed, he stopped breathing.

Scottsdale fire personnel took all three to the hospital.

Just after midnight, Knowlton was pronounced dead, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Knowlton hit his parents and deployed a "conducted electrical weapon" on his father, police said.

Police say it's unclear why Knowlton attacked his parents but drug paraphernalia was found in his possession.

Knowlton has no criminal history in Scottsdale, according to police.

The cause of Knowlton's death will be turned over to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, police said.

The elderly victims are in stable condition at this time.
