Police dogs from around the country coming to Scottsdale for annual Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials

SCOTTSDALE - Police dogs are more than just dogs. They're often a huge part of the police force, working long shifts, providing benefits and offering companionship for many of the officers.

Scottsdale Police Department officials talked with ABC15 Saturday morning about canine officers and canine training.

Police dog, "Jake," and his human officers staged an interaction with a "break-in suspect" to introduce the upcoming event.

The Desert Dogs Police K-9 Trials will be taking place at Scottsdale Stadium April 12 and 13, allowing the public to interact with officers and their dogs from around the country.

Raffles and various events will occur during event days to entertain the public, including more staged and educational events.

Visitors will learn about canine training, the safety precautions officers and their dogs take and much more.

Event attendees can enter Scottsdale Stadium for free, but donations upon arrival are appreciated.
