Police check out suspicious item taped to table in Scottsdale Chase bank

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A suspicious device found taped to a table inside a Scottsdale bank has been deemed inert, according to officials.

Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins said the device was attached to a table in the front entry area of a Chase bank near Dynamite Boulevard and 101st Way.

The item was made to appear to be an explosive device, according to Pubins.

The bank was evacuated of employees, who noticed the item around 8:15 a.m., before the bank opened for business.

Mesa Police Department's bomb squad was called in to evaluate the device. Around 1 p.m. the Mesa team deemed the device to be inert.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The bank remains shut down Wednesday as crews collect evidence from the scene. The bank is expected to be reopened Thursday, Pubins said.
