PD: Man frustrated with Phoenix marathon road closures arrested for reckless driving

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A man frustrated with the road closures due to a large marathon Sunday in the Valley was arrested for verbally abusing an officer.

Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins said 55-year-old Phoenix resident Lawrence Martz was arrested on counts of reckless driving, disorderly conduct, endangerment and aggravated assault after verbally abusing an officer working traffic control for the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon and half marathon.

Pubins said Martz was stopped near 68th Street and Thomas Road around 8:30 a.m. by an officer working traffic control after he was seen driving toward the marathon course and officer at a high rate of speed.

The man told police he was frustrated because he couldn't get to where he wanted to go due to the road closures, said Pubins.

The marathon was unaffected by the incident, police said.
