PD: 3 arrested for assault on ROTC officer at Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police arrested three men for assaulting a uniformed ROTC officer working the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Tuesday.

According to Scottsdale police, the three men were harassing private security officers around the valet/cab lot.

The Phoenix Open is being held this week at Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale near Scottsdale and Bell roads.

Police said the men appeared intoxicated and were walking on the sidewalk, yelling profanities and displaying middle fingers at the security guards.

The uniformed ROTC officer drove a golf cart near them, and one of the men spit on her and yelled, police said.

The 19-year-old female victim is a member of her college ROTC and dressed in uniform while volunteering at the event.

Police said the ROTC officer also reported that one of the men grabbed her arm earlier in the day, asking for a ride in the golf cart. When she refused, he sprayed a sports drink at her.

Police officers arrested the men for disorderly conduct, assault and failure to obey a police officer.

They were booked into Scottsdale City Jail and later released, pending a court appearance, according to police.
