Mom, daughter get lost hiking in Scottsdale McDowell Mountain Preserve

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Scottsdale fire officials say after a three hour search, they were able to locate a woman and her daughter who got lost hiking in the McDowell Mountain Preserve Monday night.

Scottsdale Fire Battalion Chief Dan Bunce said the woman called 911 around 5:30 p.m. to report she and her 8-year-old daughter were lost in the Tom's Thumb area.

Bunce said the woman's cell phone died before rescuers were able to determine their exact location.

Crews were able to locate the woman and her daughter around 8:30 p.m.

Bunce said no injuries have been reported and the two are expected to be okay.

Authorities want to remind hikers to wear appropriate clothing, and prepare for the unexpected by bringing a fully charged cell phone, flashlight, and plenty of water.
