FD: Car hits gas main in Scottsdale, roads closed for hours

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Authorities say a roadway in Scottsdale was closed during the morning rush hour after a vehicle hit a utility box and gas main.

Scottsdale Fire Department spokesman Dave Folio said a vehicle crashed into a large utility box and gas main near 90th Street and Via Linda just after 4 a.m.

Folio said the high voltage power box was knocked from its foundation, exposing live power lines to the vehicle.

The vehicle also hit a large gas meter sending natural gas into the area for three hours.

Fire crews evacuated a three block area and worked with Southwest Gas and Arizona Public Service to secure power to the area and plug the gas line.

Folio said rush hour traffic in the area was affected for four hours.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was not injured.
